What did you do Bob, buy Patrick's SR?

That was a sweet bike.
It was built to a 540 I believe with 6 piston Nissan front brakes.
I took a second at Beaverun on it with some pretty good competition.

No, no, Gordon. I told you that I should be "The Other Gordon" now.

You failed to mention the brilliant cylinder head design of the SR500.

Hi Gordon. I will always be the Other Gordon. Brilliant head design? Surely you jest. The other, other Gordon, Mr. Jennings would argue about that, and he has data and frustration to back it up. Remember the flow test in Cycle? The numbers went up when he had had enough and just stuck a popsicle stick in the intake. A good read if you can find it.

Hey Bob, Are you going to Grattan for the Team Chicago school? I can bring some info on the SR if I can find a way there.

The only way to get any sort of flow in that head starts with adding about 3/4" of metal to the top of the head above the intake tract.

Yes, I remember the days. Way back when right before the Honda 4 Valve 500 single cylinder came out, Sir Gordon Jennings was doing a three part article on the building of a racing engine from the Yamy single in the pages of Cycle magazine (best cycling magazine ever produced..IMHO) he did the first two articles and I have them here in my files... if one should want to read them, BUT first read on. Just prior to the publishing of the Part 3 article... Honda introduced the Honda XR500 and Gordon never ever wrote again about the old british "infuenced" boat anchor, engine from Yamaha. Long stroke, small bore lump.

Bob, do yourself a favor...stick with the brand that got you, where u are today. King of Daytona 2009 Heavyweight Honda CB750 pilot!

Right now I have no idea. Waiting on parts coming back for the rebuild on Garry's old race bike. If I can get that together in time? Maybe.

Or I could bring the Proddy bike. Although I was planning on putting the lights back on that one today.

My interest in the SR 500 comes mainly from the fact that a buddy of mine has three of them laying around and we're working on plans for next winter's ice bike. Mark, if you want to hand us an equivalent pile of XL 500 stuff we'll be happy to make one out of that instead. I would also consider an Ascot but Jennifer says I'm not allowed to own one of those.

A buddy of mine had a stock SR back in the day. I believe it's the slowest thing I ever rode that had a Yamaha logo on it.

I really like SRs. Put a VM36 on them and free up the exh. a bit and you have a fun street bike if you don't want to race. If you try to successfully modify them for the street, they will not be fast enough and you will anger the pig.
